Who is the most famous video game character of our generation? If you said Mario then you are correct. Mario has been on the scene for over fifteen years now and is a veteran in the game. This is because of the great games. He is very recognizable and there is not any other character who looks like him.

Mario might be famous, but his closest friends and family members also played a big role in pushing him up to that number one spot. In the classic games many of his closest love ones make an appearance like Luigi and Yoshi.

Super Mario is very successful because of the platform run and jump games that he starred in. Super Mario World is one of these games that is widely popular.

This game has everything you want, crisp graphics, lovable sound effects and excellent gameplay. Many gamers where introduced to gaming because of this game. It is a double edged sword, because after playing this game everything that you play after that will be compared to Super Mario World.

Somehow Nintendo keeps doing it, because when the jump from 2D to 3D happened, Mario again set the standard for 3D platform games with Mario 64. The controls, level design, graphics, camera control, and much more is what makes this game a classic. It was also a long game with many secrets and Easter eggs in it.

A great thing about Mario games is that the creators are able to take the same characters, but are able to spin in to a different genre like, tennis or racing and totally dominate and get new fans in the process. There have been failures to of course, but Mario will never be remembered for those as he has literally changed the video game industry and controls his own destiny.

So what will happen in the future? Well let's look at the past. Since Shigeru Miyamoto knows that the Mario brand is profitable, he will continue to develop new Mario games and also try to get Mario to do other things that the competition is too afraid to try doing.
