There is an easy way to measure how popular Pokemon is today. Just look at all the merchandise that is still being produced and sold on a global scale. Most of the buyers are parents who want to keep their kids happy. Let us look at why Pokemon is so popular.

The first reason why Pokemon is so popular is because of its mascot Pikachu. He is a little yellow creature that has the ability to control lightning. The only words he says are "Pika Pika". Many people find Pikachu adorable. He is like a teddy bear, and much fluffy merchandise has been made about Pikachu and other cute Pokemon.

Pikachu is also very loyal and often in a good mood, but if he evolves he turns into Raichu. This Pokemon has an attitude and has a short fuse.

The second reason why Pokemon is so popular is because of the cartoon. This propelled Pokemon from a nation known into a worldwide famous franchise. The cartoon is about a main character named Ash Ketchum who has Pikachu as his first pokemon.

With two of his friends he travels different countries and continents to catch more Pokemon and to battle against other trainers. Always on their heels is the rival team, named team Rocket, who want to take them down and even steal there pokemon.

The third reason that Pokemon is so popular is that the owning company started to make different products to win over new fans and keep existing ones happy. All the different products made Pokemon well known on a global scale. Some of these products are video games, playing cards, and toys.

Some people even say that Nintendo is milking the franchise. But this is just an excellent business move to capitalize on the immense popularity of the franchise.

New games are being developed, but not without its own controversy. Most of the games are pretty similar, the only difference is that you start out with certain Pokemon and can only catch a couple of unique ones in the game. The games itself are of top quality, though.

Do not let this confuse you and just get one that seems to be the best. Most people will not care about the slight differences as they will never be able to get those unique Pokemon anyway.

It is quite a surprise that Pokemon is still going strong even after looking at these three reasons. Nintendo has made a right decision in putting so much time and effort in making Pokemon popular.
